Goals for 2021

I have more hopes—goals?—goals for 2021 than I can reasonably achieve, but I’m not discouraged. If I have enough of them, I can probably achieve one! We’re setting the bar low this year, stacking it on top of 2020’s ashes and no higher. I still might trip, but I won’t have far to fall.

In descending order of how deeply and passionately I want it, with complete and total disregard for likelihood.

  1. Publish a novel

  2. Finish 1st draft of Divided Crossroads

  3. Finish Luckless Sinners

Number one is a doozy, and also the most out of my control. I’ve had two novels out to publishing houses without being picked up. I have the most hope for Defining Lines right now. After a hard round of edits, it’s looking better than ever, but it will still take time.

Number two would make my sixth novel in six years, a bonus goal that I want to meet. The easy half is finished, but Defining Lines was easily this difficult. If nothing else, the sequel is turning out consistent with the original.

Number three is far fetched. The first draft of Luckless Sinners is the longest, messiest novel I have ever written and it will be a feat to rework it into anything coherent.
